The Day Programming Worker assists participants with their physical, economic, vocational, recreational, social, emotional, and safety needs and their daily life skills development. They assist participants to achieve the greatest degree of independence and quality of life possible as laid out in their Individual Person-Centered Plans. The Day Programming Worker provides individualized and group programming for adults with support needs. They will act in a professional manner and create a safe, respectful and dignified environment for the participants. They actively participate as members of a team responsible for the efficient functioning of FRIENDS day programming.
The Community Living Housing Support Worker assists adults with support needs with their physical, economic, vocational, recreational, social, emotional, and safety needs, and their daily life skills development. The worker assists the individual to achieve the greatest degree of independence and quality of life possible as laid out in their Individual Care Plans and/or Person-Centered Planning. They will act in a professional manner and create a safe, respectful and dignified home environment for the individual. The Worker actively participates as a member of a support team
responsible for each individual, and for the efficient functioning of the Program.
Education, Training and Experience
1. Diploma in human services or a related field
2. One (1) year recent related experience working in a caregiver or support worker role or) an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
3. Current First Aid certification
4. FOODSAFE certification
5. Valid BC Drivers licence (full class 5 at hire)
6. Criminal record check

Island Community Services is looking for compassionate team members to work with adults with support needs in their homes and in the community. The daily tasks include but are not limited to personal care such as giving showers, helping with toileting, dressing, administering medications and helping with wheelchairs, walkers and lifts; daily home chores such as cooking, cleaning, laundry and simple maintenance; participating in social and recreational activities; and records keeping.
Qualities and skills that we are looking for include ability to communicate with people using various forms of communication as well as with their family and other supports and generally help the people we support live their best lives in their homes and in the community. We are looking for people with experience from the Social Care field or other related fields.
Some of our services run 24/7, so we need dedicated people with flexible schedules. Most of our employees start on a casual basis, gaining skills and experience while working towards regular full-time and part-time positions with benefits. Starting wage is $25.95 or $26.83 depending on experience, with an additional 10.2% in lieu of vacation and statutory holidays for casual workers.
A valid, Class 5 Drivers Licence is required. Priority will be given to holders of a Class 4 licence. Criminal Records Search for the Vulnerable Sector, TB screening, FOODSAFE and First Aid has to be obtained after hire.
