How to Give
General Donations
Donations support our overall mission and activities; in many cases they can also be directed by the donor to a specific purpose. In either case we keep close track of donations and ensure they are put to use where the benefit to people and community is the greatest.
Donations can be made directly with cash, bank transfer or gifts of securities.
The best and easiest way to make a donation is to
e-transfer to accounting@ssics.ca.
You can also make an online donation through Paypal by clicking the button below.
Please make cheques payable to Salt Spring Island Community Services.
Stocks and Securities
Current tax rules provide a great advantage to donating publicly listed securities or mutual fund units including eliminating capital gains tax while also receiving a full market value tax receipt for your gift. This type of donation allows you to maximize your giving to a charity like Island Community Services rather than selling securities and donating proceeds.
You can complete the Securities Donation Form and return one copy to us and one to your broker. For more information on donating securities, please email Rob Grant Executive Director or call (250) 537-9971 ext. 222.
A Lasting Legacy
Legacy gifts provide long-term support that will ensure we are able to continue our work of strengthening people, families and our community not only for today, but also tomorrow. Legacy gifts are expressions of your values and hopes for the future. There are many ways to leave a legacy gift:
A bequest in your will – This may be a specific gift such as cash, securities, RRSPs, or the residual of the estate after loved ones are provided for;
Life insurance policy. A new or existing policy naming SSICS as the beneficiary;
We would be pleased to discuss other donation options. If you are planning to make a legacy gift to SSICS please contact us to ensure your gift will fulfill your intentions and provide you with optimum tax benefits.
