Accountability

Island Community Services has been accredited since 2007 by the internationally accepted standards of CARF International. A CARF survey every three years is a process of not only confirming compliance with standards, but also having the evidence to prove it.

“Accreditation is a comprehensive review to determine if a provider’s services meet international standards of quality” according to the CARF website. “Achieving accreditation means the provider is committed to delivering safe and effective services and ongoing performance improvement.”

CARF is a widely accepted accrediting body that sets international consensus standards for health and human services organizations. Governments and funders accept CARF accreditation as a sign of quality and is a key accountability measure for the agency for providers of public funding.

The agency is committed to an external accreditation, and obligated to it as a condition of certain funding provided by the Ministry of Children and Family Development, as well as by Community Living BC.

The survey by CARF International covers all areas of service delivery in funded programs, as well as organizational governance, community collaboration and business practice.

As a registered charity with many measures of accountability for our process and our service delivery  beyond the external accreditation. There are also extremely high levels of accountability to our funders with robust reporting requirements. We are accountable to those served with mechanisms to receive and address any feedback. Being a union environment equates with a high level of accountability to staff as well.
