Blue Grouse Estate is comprised of 65 acres tucked away on a sunny Vancouver Island slope in the Cowichan Valley, named from a Salishan First Nations word meaning “the warm land”.
11th – Wednesday Gabriel’s Café in Nanaimo
They are happy to say that the community has grown with them. They work with about 15 farms and food producers at any given point in time, and have developed a soup token program to help disadvantaged people in their community, they’re a showcase for local artists and give back where they can, and the community gives them their support in turn. Lovely menu too!
19th – Thursday NewCastle Island Picnic – Only 11 spots available
The island is also a source of traditional natural medicines and has always been associated with physical and spiritual healing.
Now it is run as a protected marine park and event destination by the Snuneymuxw people. A walk around the island truly takes you back through time; you can find hidden treasures of all the island’s past incarnations if you only take the time to look.

As a not-for-profit community organization, the Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea connects the public with the Salish Sea Bioregion and its ecosystems through engagement, knowledge and awareness. This one-of-a-kind aquarium and learning centre offers an interactive, informative and hands-on experience with the Salish Sea through self-guided visits, daily programs, group and school bookings, and special events and lectures
