Community partners across Salt Spring Island are joining to support Salt Spring Youth Week. Salt Spring Community Services and the Core Inn and Climbing Wall, PARC and the Rainbow Road Pool, the Salt Spring Island Library, Country Grocer and Thrifty’s are sponsoring the week in tandem with the 21st annual BC Youth Week running May 1 – 8.
The week will see events around Ganges scheduled for a week of fun and celebration intended to build solidarity in youth and a strong connection between them and their communities. Youth on Salt Spring can embrace the spirit of Youth Week by participating in activities and events organized for the week.
“We’re pleased to be part of this community collaboration in honour of island youth,” said Rob Grant, Salt Spring Community Services Executive Director. “The Core Inn was born out of community efforts to support youth and this is a great opportunity to continue that tradition.”
The week kicks off with a musical Jam Night at the Core Inn sponsored by Country Grocer on Thursday, April 30th. On Friday May 1st the Rainbow Road Pool is hosting an inner tube water polo match with admission free for youth (Grade 6-12) at Friday Night Madness.
The Climbing Wall located at Salt Spring Community Services main building at 268 Fulford-Ganges Road will be free for youth that week with public climbing available both Sunday 3rd and Thursday 7th.
The Salt Spring Library will be hosting a writing contest for youth (Age 13-18) running the week of May 1- 7 with prizes to be announced. Entries to a maximum of 5000 words can be brought to the desk at the library or emailed to librarian@saltspringlibrary.com. There will also be a special presentation of youth fiction on display during the week. For more information on the writing contest, please contact the Salt Spring Library.
