Island Community Services is pleased to offer the Nitikman / Chan Educational and Training Bursary to Amanda Kimmel on behalf of the Nitikman/Chan family.
The Nitikman/Chan Educational and Training Fund is intended to support residents of the Salt Spring and the Southern Gulf Islands who are working to improve their financial standing in life through continued education. In recognition of the scope of its community involvement, Island Community Services was requested to select and distribute the funds to an individual each year who meets the criteria.
Amanda Kimmel was identified as the standout recipient for the this inaugural year. Moving from the profession of Care Aid into Registered Psychiatric Nursing, studying while working and raising her child as a single mother, Amanda will not only have significantly improved her ability to earn a stable living, she is also filling a great need in our community for nurses and mental healthcare providers.
Throughout winter and spring of 2024 Island Community Services explored a number of candidates. Screening included: 1. confirming residency on SSI/Southern Gulf Islands, 2. confirming financial need, and, 3. confirming use of bursary for moving ahead on plans for financial independence through education/training.
The value of the 2024 Bursary is $ 2,500.
Congratulations Amanda, who has worked very hard over the last few years, and best of luck in all future endeavors!
