Harvest Dinner Fundraiser

Tuesday MarketA Farm to Table benefit dinner on September 23rd at Bullock Lake Farm aims to bolster a program of Salt Spring Island Community Services that provides nutrition to low income families and supports local farmers.

Every Tuesday, The Tuesday Farmers Market in Centennial Park sees the Farmers Market Nutritional Coupon Program (FMNCP) in action. It is a province wide program organized by the BC Association of  Farmers Market in partnership with the BC government and running in communities across the province. The program offers coupons to low income seniors and families, redeemable by vendors at the farmers markets. The program that supports local farmers and offers fresh local food to those in need, facilitating an alternative to standing in food bank lineups for some of the people that find it very difficult.

Over the past 6 years Salt Spring Community Services has been managing this program while offering workshops in the park for  cooking, canning and pickling, recipe ideas, cheese making and holistic nutritionist advice.  The Tuesday Farmers Market on Salt Spring would like to further expand this program, allowing more support for low income residents at the Sept 23rd event.

It’s all about connection, education, and eating right. Good food should be for everyone!
