Island Community Services is participating, in partnership with School District 64, in the provincially funded “Feeding Futures” program on Salt Spring Island.
The meals provided to elementary schools on Salt Spring Island are prepared at, and delivered by, Harvest Kitchen of Island Community Services, which also prepares and delivers Harvest Home Meals to seniors on Salt Spring.
Both programs are now being offered in new eco-friendly reusable containers sourced to reduce the impact on the planet. Containers are picked up at the next delivery and returned to the company for washing, sanitizing and re-use.
The Feeding Futures school food program was announced by the provincial government in 2023, representing the largest investment in school food programs in the Province’s history. The program committed to partnerships with local growers and food producers to include more BC food in schools.
Harvest Kitchen is part of the family of food programs at Island Community Services that also includes Harvest Farm at the Burgoyne Valley Community Gardens, producing food for the benefit of the Harvest Kitchen projects, as well as the Food Bank and other meal programs offered through the agency’s programs and services.
