The Capital Regional District Board has made the most favourable decision hoped for regarding recycling depot funding.
They will continue to provide the same level of funding to rural depots as in the past until 2019. This is the year that the new Multi Materials BC agreement with the CRD for blue box recycling expires.
This 3 year reprieve will allow time for SSICS, the CRD and others to evaluate recycling options and strategies in the community, and hopefully for the provincial government to evaluate the effectiveness of MMBC in managing their responsibility to recover packaging materials on behalf of industry.
We anticipate “business as usual” at the depot for the near future, and we will probably simply agree on an extension to our current agreement with the CRD with no changes.
