Point In Time Homeless Count

Results for the Point In Time Count that was conducted in many communities across Canada are now being released.  We took the lead in conducting the count on Salt Spring and have numbers to compare and contrast with those collected in Greater Victoria by the Social Planning Council.

The SSI numbers continue to be very high per capita.  SSI homeless: 83 (1 in 127 people), Greater Victoria homeless: 1,389 (1 in 248 people).

Another alarming fact is that of the 83 homeless on SSI only 19% had temporary shelter (transition house, our shelter). In Greater Victoria 82% of the 1389 had temporary shelter, leaving only 192 unsheltered compared to 68 on SSI.
