After Black Friday & Cyber Monday –
Join the movement dedicated to giving back. Giving Tuesday is a National Giving Day in Canada. You can read all about it here at GivingTuesday.ca.
As a Giving Tuesday partner, SSICS would like to keep you updated on our experience with local challenges through these trying times.
Throughout the pandemic, we have continued to provide our services as we’ve been pioneering new ways of doing what we do during pandemic times.
As we experience the second wave, we are more prepared. We know what special economic and social challenges lay ahead for our island communities. As a key provider of mental health support services for children, youth and adults, we feel the responsibility to step up our services in this time of unprecedented need. Other services for Family Place and Youth Programming are also critical supports.
Our services to support the homeless population have been stretched as never before with social distancing dictating maximum occupancies for the Emergency Shelter. As the weather turns and demands increase, the decrease in capacity from previous years is sharply felt. The need to respond to the housing challenges on Salt Spring is pressing with increased urgency.
Food Programs have grown significantly in response to the needs of the community. Beyond the traditional food bank distribution with modified procedures, SSICS has been delivering food to vulnerable individuals and families along with maintaining community fridges and bolstering meal programs.
If you are making a donation this Giving Tuesday, please consider giving to your local Community Services, providing essential services to our community for over 45 years.
