The Salt Spring Island Emergency Shelter is open during the storms of October 13,14, 15 due to a BC Housing announcement that funding would be available to open early due to the extreme weather conditions being experienced in the region currently.
The shelter is located at the main Salt Spring Island Community Services site at 268 Fulford-Ganges Road.

VICTORIA – Storm season has arrived earlier than usual this year, and as a result, the Province is providing early funding to any Extreme Weather Response (EWR) shelter in British Columbia that is prepared to open early.
While the EWR season officially runs from Nov. 1 to March 31, almost 30 EWR shelters across Metro Vancouver and around B.C. were able to begin operations Wednesday evening. These additional spaces will increase capacity so that people who are homeless can access a safe and warm place to sleep during the rainy days ahead. …
