Day Program and Housing Support Worker

Island Community Services is looking for a compassionate team member to work with adults with support needs in their homes and in the community. The daily tasks include: personal care e.g. give showers, help with toileting, dressing, administer medications and help with wheelchairs, walkers and lifts; daily home chores: e.g. cooking, cleaning, laundry and simple maintenance; participate in social and recreational activities; and records keeping. Shifts range from 4 hours to 10 hours in length including overnights, evenings, days and weekends.

Qualities and skills that we are looking for include: ability to communicate with people using various forms of communication as well as with their family and other supports and generally help the people we support live their best lives in their homes and in the community. We are looking for people with experience from the Social Care field or other related personal or professional experience. We are willing to provide extra training to those with a commitment to learn who are looking to enter this field of work.  

Some of our services run 24/7, so we need dedicated people with flexible schedules. Most of our employees start on a casual basis, gaining skills and experience while working towards regular full-time and part-time positions with benefits. Starting wage is $25.95 or $26.83 depending on experience, with an additional 10.2% in lieu of vacation and statutory holidays for casual workers.

A valid, class 5 Drivers Licence is required. Priority will be given to holders of a class 4 licence (restricted). Criminal Records Search for the Vulnerable Sector, TB screening, First Aid and Food Safe must to be obtained after hire.
