Service Status Update: Monday March 23, 2020, COVID-19

As the situation is ever evolving around COVID-19, we will continue to keep everyone updated in this space and on the Salt Spring Exchange with regard to the status of our various services. The below is a run-down on each of our service areas. Please make a habit of checking this page of our website before engaging with our services each time so that you are up to date.

Main Building – 268 Fulford-Ganges Road

Main officeis minimally staffed, and our offices are closed to the public. Please call (250) 537-9971 or email info@ssics.ca rather than attending appointments in person, if at all possible.

  • Reception is OPEN during usual office hours (9AM-4PM) Monday to Friday to receive phone calls, donations and other drop-offs for Community Services via the window adjacent to the main entrance.

Yellow Sub Mental Health Drop-in Group is closed until further notice. Individualized supports are available and staff are reachable by phone or e-mail at dkameka@ssics.ca

The Food Bank will be open on Tuesdays until further notice in an altered format whereby orders and pickup will be outdoors and choices will be restricted.  For people who are not able to make it to the Food Bank on Tuesdays, a limited number of pre-filled food bags are available at the main building, at reception.

Outreach Centre laundry facilities will be available for people in a limited fashion on Tuesdays with individual access to facilities only. Showers will remain open, but only for shelter users who have been through intake.

Emergency Shelter is open in a limited fashion only to current clients who have been through intake.

In From the Cold evening meal will continue to be available, and is being done take-out style.

         Please NOTE:  The WorkBC office located in the building is closed to the public but they are available by phone during office hours: (250) 931-7687

 Other Buildings & Programs

Counselling Services for both the youth and community counsellor will continue in a modified remote fashion. Counsellors can be reached by phone and email.

Family Place public programs are closed until further notice. This includes: Mother Goose, Island Infants Discussion Group, Stay & Play Drop-in, and Dad n’ Me Pancake Breakfast. Staff are available for one-on-one services, please call (250) 537-9176. Food Bank pickup at Family Place will continue to operate.

Friends Day Program for developmentally disabled adults is open with modifications and adaptations as per guidelines of Vancouver Island Health Authority and Community Living BC.

Recycling Depot is closed until further notice.

Core-Inn Youth Drop-In is closed until further notice.

Harvest Kitchen Café is closed until further notice.

Seniors’ Wellness Services Office is closed.

  • The Better at Home program is continuing with modifications and adaptations as required.
  • Van excursionshave been cancelled.

Victim Services is available by email at victimservices@ssics.ca

Special Services to Childrenwill not be serving clients until further notice.

The Climbing Wall is closed until further notice.
